For those of us who don't have the funding or motivation to brave Red Rocks in pursuit of Monolith this weekend, alternative options abound. The 12th annual Suburban Home Records Anniversary weekend, for example, will liven 3 Kings Tavern Friday through Sunday.
In an otherwise ghost town, artists from the famed local label Suburban Home will keep those stationed in Denver rocking. Friday night's festivities include bands such as Love Me Destroyer, LaGrecia, and Jon Snodgrass (of Drag The River). Saturday, after the Punk Rock Flea Market in the basement of 3 Kings, Ghost Buffalo, Tim Barry, and Chad Price (also of Drag The River) will take the stage.
The Punk Rock Flea Market, as well as Sunday's barbecue in addition to the show, will contribute to the festivities. At the Flea Market they'll sell CDs and posters of your favorite Suburban Home artists while hosting acoustic performances from several artists including Signal To Noise. The Sunday barbecue at Washington Park is set to be a good wind-down for the music overload happening this weekend. There'll be food, beer and Washers (a game likened to Horseshoes-only it's mandatory to play the whole game with a beer in one hand).
Denver will still be booming with musical delights beyond the Rocks, and for those attending Monolith, Suburban Home's shows go on much later than the festival will. So stop by before, during or after Friday and Saturday for additional rocking, no matter what your circumstance.
Suburban Home's 12th Anniversary Weekend will include performances by Love Me Destroyer, Tim Barry and members of Drag The River. The 21+ shows cost $10 for both shows or $6 for one and will start around 10 p.m.
