April fools, only you can decide Beginning April 1 through April 8, UCD students can begin voting for the next student government leaders online. But before you cast your vote, check out the candidate's debate from 11:30-1:30 p.m. on March 30 in the Tivoli Turnhalle. And if you can't make it then, don't worry. The candidates will debate two more times, at 2:30 on April 4 and 7 at the flagpole. This is a great opportunity to get to know your candidates and to make an informed choice. And if you still can't make it to the debates, well as the saying goes, your sh*t out of luck because the candidate links on the student government Web site are down. Good work guys, way to be accessible!
There goes another one All of the wrong people, rather, women, are leaving the CU system. Dana Gibson, vice chancellor for administration and information systems, recently submitted her resignation after three years at UCDHSC. Gibson has been offered a new job at Southern Methodist University (SMU) as Chief Financial Officer. Southern Methodist University is located in Dallas, which also happens to be Gibson's hometown. Good luck Dana!

Up in smoke No this is not about the smoking ban, this is about weed and a group of student activists called Safer Alternatives for Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER). They're trying to get administrators from CU-Boulder and CSU to 'lighten up' on enforcing marijuana laws because they claim it is less harmful than drinking booze. Students from both campuses began signing petitions to put a marijuana referendum on the ballot for April's student elections. SAFER is also requesting a study by administrators to determine the outcome of making pot smoking nonpunishable for students over the age of 18. Aside from the obvious holes in their argument, the referendum, if passed - which it probably will - does not change the fact that possession and or use of marijuana is still a punishable crime. SAFER was able to get the 1,200 signatures needed from Boulder to get the referendum on the ballot, without much trouble Eye suspect, and was still working on the 2,085 needed from CSU. The deadline is April 4.
