Think a little before you tinkle
On Jan. 17 a man was arrested for urinating in public. He was also found to have less than an ounce of marijuana and associated paraphernalia on him at the time. This should be a lesson for anyone carrying an illegal substance: Do not do anything stupid while in possession of an illegal substance. There are bathrooms all over campus, in every major building, clearly labeled and easy to find. I understand urinating in public while camping. I understand urinating in public at a crowded kegger. I even understand urinating in public on a poorly planned golf course. There is a time and place for urinating outside. The place is not campus, though the buildings do lock up at nighttime…
But I'm in class!
An arrest was made in the Arts Building room 276 on Jan. 18 for contempt of court. The gentlemen involved evidently didn't show up for his court date. It's not as bad as having the Dog come down on you, but really people, if you're running foul of the law, maintaining your daily schedule isn't the best idea. Watching reruns of Law & Order will really clue you in to how easy it is to run down someone already in the system. It's all about the power of the system, and once you're in the system it's easy to find you. Crime doesn't pay, especially if you are a college student with a strict attendance policy.
Do not collect $200
On Jan. 19 in the South Classroom a Metro student was assaulted and robbed of his wallet. This wasn't someone leaving her bag in a computer lab. Some guy wearing baggy clothing actually straight up assaulted a fellow campus member. The suspect didn't steal some expensive iPod or laptop that someone was flashing, he just went for the victim's wallet. What is campus coming to? Who thinks students here actually have money in their wallets? I would have thought stealing random peoples' wallets was a sure way of pulling a "go straight to jail" card.
Have a heart
A carrying case was stolen on Jan. 22 from the South Classroom room 232. Inside were some books and a little money, but more importantly it held a diabetes kit with a glucose meter and strips. I'm not sure on the law here, but if you steal someone's diabetes kit and they die because of it, isn't that some sort of murder, or manslaughter? I understand you're already stealing someone's stuff, so you're not a nice person. Still, it's not like you're kidnapping people and torturing them, all you want is their stuff. So next time, if you're robbing someone, don't take their medical items, just drop them on the ground and run away. We'll still hate you, but we won't hate you as much as we would otherwise.
