Here we are, back at school again after we forgot everything from last semester over a whole month filled with holidays and holy blizzards. Time to dust off our brains and get back to the books. Try not to get too serious though; take a break now and then to do something fun. Below you'll find many tempting offers and some fun facts too.

Wednesday : 24 Jan

Today in 1909 beer companies make their first attempt to sell canned beer, but it is nasty. Thirty years later they figure out how to coat the can and sales flourish.

Tonight is Time Warp Wednesday at Rise Nightclub (1909 Blake St.). '60s jams at 9 p.m., then up through today's music untill 2 a.m.

Buddhist Meditation Classes today from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Classes are at the Avalokiteshvara Buddhist Center (1081 Marion St.) for $10.

Thursday : 25 Jan

Today in 1905 the world's largest diamond is found in South Africa. This mega-diamond weighs 1.33 lbs and is cut into 109 smaller diamonds.

The International Snow Sculpture Championships are in Breckenridge this week. Watch contestants carve magic into several-ton blocks of snow. The exhibition runs through Jan. 28.

Check out Flamenco dancing tonight. The Buenos Aires Grill has a Flamenco show every Thursday night from 7 - 8:15 p.m. at 2129 Arapahoe at 22nd Ave.

Friday : 26 Jan

Today in 1788 the first ship full of convicts lands in Australia. Britain has too many for their prisons, and decides to export.

Tonight "Bad Dates" will be showing at 8 p.m. at the Bug Theatre (3654 Navajo St). A single mom who hits the dating scene after a few years off. Tickets are $20.

The Denver Zoo and the Denver Film Society recently joined forces to bring Denver a Wildlife Film Festival. Today Cherub in the Mist is playing at 7 p.m. at the Starz! FilmCenter.

Saturday : 27 Jan

National Geographic Society is founded on this day in 1888. First issue is overly technical, but after they add pictures and articles the average Joe can understand, the society rapidly succeeds.

Dancing tonight at the Mercury Café (2199 California). Shag class at 5:30 p.m. and swing class at 6:30 (each for $1), and more swing at 8 p.m. for $6.

Monday : 29 Jan

Today in 1936 the Baseball Hall of Fame elects its first members. The Hall becomes rather popular, seeing about 350,000 visitors every year.

On this day in 1933 The Lone Ranger radio show debuts. While not even close to being historically accurate, this show provides an admirable role model. The show's incredible popularity hooks two million Americans by 1939.
