Since most national tours are doing their best to steer clear of Denver due to the snow, music fans should be seeking out local shows to satisfy their need for live entertainment. Ducking off the ice-packed sidewalks into local venues will provide an alternative for those unable to remain in hibernation. A local trio, The Knew, along with Lionsized, A Shoreline Dream and The Life There Is will be playing at the Bluebird Theater this Friday night to try and rock out our abrasive winter blues. The Knew plays a captivating and danceable set of bass-lessy uncompromised rock 'n' roll. Their heavy, raw, garage-band sound is reminiscent of the White Stripes and The Hives, yet they bring an understated southern-rock component that makes it their own. The Knew just reunited as a trio and has begun playing various venues about town with more commotion than ever. Through songs built up by two electric guitars and menacing drums, The Knew will resuscitate the young people in Denver from frozen shut-ins to rocking hipsters. Some slide guitar and tambourine shakes adds a maturity to the live experience, but their modest approachability is what makes them worth leaving your house for. It will be the ideal Friday night to meet up with friends for some reasonably-priced drinks and local entertainment. Each band will bring a sound that should thaw the snow-packed frustrations of the blizzard and showcase what is blooming in the local music scene. The Knew will provide discordant, fast tempo songs like "Shake" and "Walk Away" with tenacity that will be sure to impress even the most cynical stylite.
