From a trailer in Issaquah, Washington to center stage at Red Rocks, Modest Mouse has drank, smoked, and driven their way to become the lo-fi rock 'n' rollers they are today. With the addition of the Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and their latest full length album We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, Modest Mouse will play their first headlining show at Red Rocks on Aug. 1.

Their first single, "Dashboard," was released earlier this year in typical fashion: rough, gritty, and with loads of criticism. Competitive hipster fans disowned them for having a video on MTV's TRL, while newcomers couldn't help but hum along to the closeted pop tune. The album, carefully constructed yet creatively uncompromised, blends new and old angles of Modest Mouse. Their live show, energetic and sometimes belligerently intoxicated will look a bit different than their last stint through town. Now with six members instead of three, the band has added new sounds and styles that will illuminate Colorado's greatest outdoor venue.

Seattle trio Band Of Horses will help set the stage with their atmospherically tense and sometimes dreamy tunes. Their 2006 Sub Pop Release Everything All The Time fits right into the Pacific Northwest indie scene and has continued to become a national favorite. Songs like "The Great Salt Lake" and "Swords" are just a few of the album's gems to keep an ear out for Wednesday night.

Kicking off the show comes Brooklyn's Love As Laughter, experts in the indie music circuit. Together since 1994, Love As Laughter will prep the crowd with their familiar, easygoing, and often acoustically driven tunes. Strap on your flannel, dark-rimmed glasses, and whiskey-soaked breath for a night of Red Rock multi-layered jams steeped in West Coast Cool.

Modest Mouse, Band Of Horses and Love As Laughter will play Red Rocks Wednesday August 1st. The Show is all-ages and costs $35.
