Jason Isbell, previously of Drive By Truckers, released his solo effort Sirens Of The Ditch to surprisingly good reception. As one of three song-writers for Drive By Truckers, Isbell had lots of creative energy flowing: enough to store some away for his own project, which he completed after parting ways with the band.

Sirens reveals Isbell's Alabama roots with country- and blues-inspired rock tunes like "Try" and "Brand New Kind Of Actress." His soulful song writing hides nothing emotionally and his exemplary skill for putting a song together is equally evident. He makes striking use of instruments like Wurlitzer, pedal steel, banjo, and B-3.

Though Drive By Truckers may suffer from losing a visionary song-writer such as Isbell, his career will only continue to flourish as a result of the passionate displays found on Sirens.
