The Metropolitan State College of Denver Sports Marketing class, in conjunction with the Colorado Mammoth National Lacrosse team, is selling tickets for the Mammoth's last home game of the season, Friday, April 14. Their efforts are part of a class project concerning team promotions.
The Sports Marketing class teaches how marketing principles apply to the sports industry. Students examine the marketing strategies of various sports and how sports are used to market products. Also, students are given an opportunity to work with a professional sports team, challenging the students to apply what they learn in the classroom to the real world. This semester, Professor Darrin Duber-Smith chose to work with the Colorado Mammoth.
Using the Mammoth as their model, students examined team promotions, a key aspect of sports marketing. Students broke into various groups and each was assigned a role relating to team promotions. While promoting the Mammoth's last home game, students gained experience in public relations, advertising, sponsorship, direct marketing, personal selling and sales promotions. The goals of this project were to learn all the different aspects of team promotions, to gain experience in sports industry, and to apply what students learned to the real world of sports.
In previous semesters, students have worked with the Colorado Crush, Colorado Rockies and the Denver Nuggets. The Marketing Department offers internships as well.
The Mammoth's last home game is schedule for Friday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets cost $14 for seats in sections 306, 338, 346, and 380 and $21 for seats in sections 112, 114, and 138. As an added benefit, these tickets do not include fees or service charges one would pay through Ticketmaster.
