Looking for a way to beat the winter cold or just support a good cause? The Porter Hospice Foundation will hold its Eighth Annual Soup for the Soul Fundraiser on March 6. All proceeds will support Porter Hospice, an organization dedicated to providing compassionate care for people at the end of their lives.
Last year, the foundation raised $190,000, far exceeding the goal of $150,000. Kathie Repola, executive director, says that this year the goal is more ambitious, set at $200,000. To raise this lofty sum, the foundation has planned an evening of art and soup at the swanky Adam’s Mark hotel.
The evening will begin with a silent auction featuring a range of art medias, including pieces by renowned Colorado nature photographer John Fielder, who will also be receiving this year’s Award of Courage after the tragic deaths of his wife and son in 2006.
After the auction, the guests can glide to the ballroom, where some of Denver’s top chefs are set to create a litany of signature soups made especially for the event. Patrons will sample soups, “from lobster bisque to prime rib chili,” says Repola.
While sampling the array of delectables, guests may even bump into a few Denver celebs. Former governor Bill Owens, whose mother was placed in Porter Hospice care, and his family have been to past events, and former mayor Wellington Webb has been spotted sipping soup as well.

The event is expected to draw in around 800 soup aficionados and do-gooders. The cost is steep, set at $90, so grab the nearest rich uncle and beg him to take you to what is set to be a tantalizing evening of culinary and philanthropic delight.
Soup for the Soul begins at 5:30 p.m. on March 6 at the Adam’s Mark hotel. To purchase tickets or donate money, call (303) 715-7612 or visit www.porterhospicefoundation.org.
