Shredding the Rockies

"Eldora even offers a college season pass with no black out dates for $149.99"

Although winter made a dismal appearance last year, skiers and snowboarders alike are not likely to be deterred from riding this year. Snow has already made an appearance in Colorado’s high country, and winter sport enthusiasts are anticipating a steady stream for the rest of this calendar year and into the next.

Two years ago we were lucky enough to experience a record snowfall that made for heavenly conditions among all resorts in the Rocky Mountains. However, the 2011-2012 season was one of the worst in the past 30 years and left much to be desired.

Unfortunately the 2012 Farmers’ Almanac is predicting average temperatures and lower than normal levels of precipitation for the Southwestern region of the United States.

Resorts in our fine mountains offer a wide variety of passes and tickets to get people of all skill levels up and on the slopes. As always, prices for lift tickets and passes continue to creep up and saving money often depends on when you plan on riding, when you obtain the pass, and the type of pass you purchase.

Because many students do not have time during the winter months to visit the mountains a great deal, Copper Mountain offers a four-pass with no black out dates for a mere $149.00.

Another way to ensure you get a couple days of fresh powder, without the hassle of mega resorts and the ever-treacherous I-70, is to visit Eldora Mountain resort just out side of Boulder. If a humble skiing experience is what you are looking for, Eldora offers discount passes; additional coupons can also be picked up at local retailers. For those enrolled in college, Eldora even offers a college season pass with no black out dates for $149.99, but this deal could end at any time.

The Auraria Ski and Snowboard Club is another way to get involved in the upcoming cold weather activities, offering a community of like-minded students from UCD, Metro and CCD.
