Chris Chase Sucks
and that's the truth

Although I am not the biggest sports fan, I do read Yahoo! Sports quite frequently as a method of procrastination. Any reader of this fairly respectable section of Yahoo! is familiar with one polarizing name: Chris Chase.
Chris Chase is a sports blogger, nothing exciting or fancy. But he receives more negative comments for his articles than any other blog that I've ever read. There are no firm statistics regarding Chase's negative reader comments, but they are rampant and consistent for all of his blogs.
According to his readers, he skews things, misrepresents things, and sounds like the world's biggest douche. He regularly gets comments like "Chris Chase blows hamsters" and "Another meaningless sports story... oh wait it's Chris Chase... nevermind :(." He has at least 2 Facebook pages titled "Fire Chris Chase!," one petition to fire him on a petition website and a Yahoo! message board dedicated to his demise. Yes, that is a Yahoo! message board allowing one of its own employees to be bashed mercilessly by haters.
I, too, am a Chris Chase hater. I have found myself reading the lede of an article and without even looking, I know that it's a Chris Chase article. How? Because he is self-centered, hates every team in the world, and always, always, always attempts to rile people up. Oh yea, it also takes him at least five paragraphs to get to the actual point of the article.
To me, Chris Chase is the Nickelback of sports writers. He is this polarizing force of terribleness that no one can get rid of. He has no substance, can't do his job right, and yet somehow, he remains a constant voice in the media. It seems as though Yahoo! is inexplicably tied to him despite the outcry from readers on a regular basis with comments like "Chris Chase should have never happened" or "I started the story thinking... wow, this douchebag Chase is actually writting [sic] a good story for once in his life... then I got to the end... BAM."
I couldn't dig up any biography on Chase, nor can I really point out anything about why he is so incredibly hated besides the fact that he doesn't write well, he makes mean jokes, and he gets paid for it. All of those are legitimate points, but a lot of other bloggers do the same thing and people love them for it. It seems that most people just abhor Chris Chase for the person that he projects himself as. Like Nickelback, people sense something wrong with it and we want to attack it.
That being said, attention is attention, so if Yahoo! is getting hits from Chris Chase haters, they will likely continue his employment. Even if his "journalism" is as questionable as his taste in sports.
To this, I say, Chris Chase, I'm sure you are a regular human being. You eat, have sex, poop, and do all that other stuff humans do. But the world fucking hates you. Please go back and rethink your style.
Sure, you have a great sense of voice if I can tell you wrote an article just by the rude lede or the mockery at the end, but you're using your sense of voice wrong. You're like Magneto. You have the power and people recognize it, but you just aren't on the right team.
