In recent times, selling handcrafted and vintage goods online has become easier than ever before. Instead of hosting handmade products at a local store, small business vendors are creating their own little boutique online.
Although Ebay used to be a leading seller of homemade products online, but despite the handmade treasures being readily available, the clustered mess of listings became worse than an over piled table at a flee market and shoppers didn’t want to dig for them to find them.
Today, Etsy has taken over as the leader in this niche market. For 20 cents per product, they will host items and take a three and a half percent commission for every product sold. Usually this means Etsy is more useful for larger crafted goods like purses, and less so for, say, handmade birthday cards.
To avoid any charges, Zibbet.com is an alternative website that doesn’t charge fees for the first 50 items sold through its online marketplace. Zibbet offers an upgrade for under $10 per month or $79 per year, and the merchants get unlimited listings, more site exposure, and customizable shop front and advanced selling features.
For an even easier option, vendors can sell and advertise through Facebook for free. After making a shop page, users can use a payment application like Ecwid to allow shoppers to buy directly from the page—without being redirected to PayPal.
The Ecwid application for Facebook is free for the first 10 products, and features unlimited storage. It doesn’t even take a transaction fee. For 15 dollars a month, growing online entrepreneurs can host 100 products on their own online storefront.
The demand for online selling is increasing fast, and customer demand for more unique handmade products through online avenues is at an all time high. Vendors can take advantage of this and sell through an online boutique and reach an infinitely bigger customer audience than ever before.
