A majority of Damascus Grill’s menu is pricey for the poor penny pinching student, but a few things on the menu are within reach of students with a part-time job. You can expect a sprinkling of flavor that’ll latch onto your taste buds and will be high-fiving each other until their hands are beet red, regardless of the price.

I suggest you start off with the two-piece Fried Stuffed Kibbi ($5.95). It’s a perfect sized appetizer—the size of two Irish potatoes—covered with a crispy shell of cracked wheat, lean meat, and special spices outside of a stuffed blend of ground meats, pine nuts, and chopped walnuts. It’s reminiscent of a creative falafel stuffed with lamb. All of this heavyweight goodness can be belly-flopped into a refreshing cucumber yogurt dip, partitioned into a kiddie pool sized side.

After this you might be good to go and utterly satisfied basking in the sun, but don’t forget to eat a main course that will have you frolicking by the seaside. A more than interesting choice would be the Syrian Sausage (13.95) meat meal. It’s a charbroiled lamb and beef sausage blended with pine nuts and spices fit for the superiority of a sultan.

The meal looks like a small curled up garter snake, taking a nap on a California king-sized bed of saffron rice. Despite the rice being a bit dry, the sausage has such a superior flavor it could cobra curl around a breakfast sausage link, suck it of its last breath, and leave it by the wayside.

Finally, you can wash this all down with a Strawberry Juice ($2.95) that is crowned with Guinness-like foam, and is chilled from top to bottom with tiny seeds floating around in fruity fulfillment.

Thinner than a smoothie yet thicker than juice, this highly refreshing beverage sits on the throne of tasty beverages. Damascus Grill’s roundtable of knighted juices that stand out for valor which include: fresh lemonade, mango, or mixed juice—papaya, mango, pineapple, and strawberry. 

After paying with genie money you wished for, you’ll walk outside as light and free as a flying carpet ride over Damascus.
