Tales from the Script gives a firsthand account of the cutthroat and competitive world of filmmaking. From first hand accounts of some of Hollywood's most talented screenwriters including John Carpenter (Halloween), Bruce Rubin (My Life) and Steven Susco (The Grudge) just to name a few, the film analyzes everything that screenwriters must endure from conception to production.

All the interviews are extremely candid, with the passion and frustration coming through with each interviewee. The film gets across one very basic point, that screenwriters are no different than any other struggling artist. Most will work tirelessly for a craft they love, with little or no reward, and it is persistence, sacrifice, hard work, and a little bit of luck, that will bring success. This struggling artist mentality has given many of featured writers a sarcastic and humorous view of the industry that has given them work, all the while cautious that success in Hollywood is indeed fickle and finite.

The film comes across in such a sincere way, that it would be hard not to like it. If you are a fan of movies, Tales from the Script gives credit to the most important part of films, the screenwriters, who rarely get the recognition they deserve. In addition, there is a companion book to the film which will be released by Harper-Collins in January.
