Maybe you have noticed that warm beverages, specifically of the caffeinated sort, are quite popular with college students. Some coffee shops downtown have caught this trend and are showing their appreciation by giving student discounts to anyone with an Auraria student ID.
These three coffee shops in particular have chosen to offer this service. All three are within a 10-minute walk from the east side of campus.
Leela European Café, located at 15th and Champa, offers $1 off of every item on the menu with a valid student ID. Dillon Grobe, a bartender at Leela, recommends a mint mocha, a Michael Jackson, or a strawberry Italian soda if you are a first-timer.
Backstage Coffee, located at 14th and Curtis, offers a 10 percent discount with an ID.
According to Matt Haddadi, owner of Backstage, the encore latte, backstage latte, or white chocolate mocha is the way to order like a local and really enjoy your drink.
Starbucks Coffee, located at 14th and Arapahoe, offers a 15 percent discount with ID. Scott Macdonald, manager and barista at this Starbucks, recommends a white mocha or caramel macchiato.
So if you get stuck with a little bit too long of a break and feel like a walk, or you're just saving a few quarters, these are some places looking for your business. Or at least they respect you enough to realize that a $5 drink just doesn't cut it in your budget.
