SGA president Jack Kroll debates which costume will be the sexiest for ASA’s event.

Metro and CCD students, eat your hearts out—on UC Denver’s dime.

The Student Government Association has approved funding for an event that includes non-UCD students on Oct. 2. The student government executive council approved sponsorship of the “Halloween Bash” on Oct. 24, an event hosted by the Asian Student Alliance, a tri-institutional group. The sponsorship will result in the student government financially supporting the event by covering admission cost for UCD, Metro, and CCD students. The sponsorship is in addition to financial support provided by the student government funding and finance board.

According to student body president Jack Kroll, the ASA traditionally used the “Halloween Bash” as a fundraiser for various activities for group members, such as retreats. Kroll said that he, as well as other student government members, did not agree with funding the ASA if UCD students are charged admission.

According to finance board chair Josh Diller, the student government will fund ASA a total of $2,000: $1,000 from the finance board and $1,000 from the executive board’s discretionary funds. The first $1,000 will go toward event costs while the other $1,000 will cover the admission costs of students that attend—up to 200.

Diller said the student government would approach Metro to request additional sponsorship of the event. “We’re going to ask them if they will cover the admission costs of their own students,” said Diller. Even if Metro does not cover the cost of Metro students that attend, UCD’s student government will still pay the full admission cost, according to Diller.

When asked if the Metro student government allows funding for non-Metro students, Tess Holonen, Metro student government director of public relations, said, “I cannot think of a single example where we funded anyone outside of Metro.”

Holonen also stated that Metro’s community is composed of students from UCD and CCD, as Auraria is a tri-institutional campus.

“CCD offered to pay for their own students, but we’re refusing the money,” said Diller. He cites CCD’s small working budget as one reason for not accepting the money.

Finance senator Chris Lindsay said that he supports spending funds from the UCD Activity Fee on the ASA “Halloween Bash,” including Metro and CCD students, because it is tri-institutional.

Diller said that any students interested in serving on the student fee advisory committee should drop by the student government office.
