Don’t be surprised if you happen to venture downtown on the 20th of this month and see a sea of blood and gore along the entire stretch of the 16th Street Mall and seeping out into the streets beyond. The seventh annual Zombie Crawl will be taking over the city of Denver and is sure to bring thousands out to participate in one of the greatest, albeit most grotesque, events our city has to offer.
Participants in this event vary from some downright disturbing characters that belong in a haunted house or a high-budget horror flick, to more light-hearted monsters and spectators looking for an afternoon of fun and entertainment.
Most all of the zombie get-ups involve fake blood on the face and clothing, and white face paint. However, some others play the role of a zombie soldier, nurse, Santa, or any other costume that the word “zombie” could be put in front of.
If covering yourself with blood, tearing your clothing and limping around town is not your idea of fun, another option is to tape an “X” on the front or back of your shirt, identifying you as a survivor. With the donning of an “X” on your body, you are agreeing to be playfully attacked by the hoard at any moment.
The event starts at 11 a.m. at Skyline Park with a Halloween themed scavenger hunt, and continues all day and into the night with an after party at Casselman’s, featuring blood Jello shots and dead bodies. Organizers also encourage participants to register online for the Crawl in order to get an accurate count to set a new world record.
