Music has changed a lot in the past 30 years; some changes are positive and some are shitty. However, one genre of music that will live forever, in many hearts, is hair metal.
The Darkness has recently released their third album Hot Cakes and it gives fans of hair metal exactly what they have been looking for.
Huge fans of hair metal will think this album by The Darkness is almost flawless. The only issue is that the songs are all very similar in sound. This makes it very difficult to determine when one song ends and another begins.
Singer Justin Hawkins has one of the best ranges of male vocalists. He also isn’t afraid to belt out an octave that most women can’t hit. Lead guitarist Dan Hawkins shreds his heart out on every solo, giving you a sound that will blow your mind. The rest of the band does fall by the wayside but that is typical in 80s hair bands.
The best songs on the album are “With A Woman” and “Street Spirit”. These two songs give you a wonderful idea of what The Darkness is all about and the music they play.
With all the elements of a great hair band—high-pitched male vocals, big hair, songs about women and guitar solos that make you want to cry with happiness—what else would make a 80s child happy.
