John Boehner delivers the No Budget No Pay Act proposal to members of the press.
According to the Huffington Post the average congressman takes home about $174,000 a year. This is more than four times the amount of the average American worker. When you receive a paycheck that is more than four times the average American you represent, there is no doubt you should be doing an amazing job. That, unfortunately, is just not the case and the No Budget, No Pay Act sets repercussions in place to motivate those in congress to do their jobs.
On Jan. 23, 2013 the House passed the No Budget, No Pay bill by a margin of 285–144 with a huge GOP backing. Shortly after that on Feb. 1, 2013 the Senate passed the bill with a huge margin of 64–34, which shows that even congress wants to fix America.
The bill sets in place an invisible fire that burns the asses of Congress, by forcing them to work as one cohesive unit in order to set a budget and fix the American fiscal problems—or not get paid.
It’s ridiculous to believe that there needs to be a bill passed so lawmakers can get shit done. When you can’t perform or accomplish tasks in your job you shouldn’t be responsible for over 300 million people. The Senate and the House need to understand they are working for the people of this country. The country cannot continue on this path of indecision that has plagued our fiscal issues and caused our economic downturn.
What does this mean for America? If America is going to dig itself out of this $16.4 trillion deficit we are going to have to rewire our thoughts on spending. The US government needs to think of the country as a business. Businesses don’t survive unless you create a budget and have more money coming in than going out. The idea of spending money to make money has become over-used and we need to spend money on wise ideas, create more profitable exports, and cut labor expenses to those that take a huge paycheck and do nothing.
Putting this into perspective: In 30 years congress has only passed four spending budgets. During the other 26 years that the budget didn’t pass we slowly went broke, the United States lost its triple A credit rating in 2011, and is in danger of losing it again unless lawmakers can get their shit together. They haven’t got long to do it; Both chambers of Congress have got to adopt a budget for the fiscal year 2014 by April 15, 2013.
The American ideal depends on the laws and decisions that the senate and the house vote upon. This is something of magnitude because it means that we are getting to the point where we are paying attention to our financial issues and reducing dependencies on other countries. Unification of the country is what is going to get us out of this mess and it needs to start with Congress and this bill.
