Pack heat in case of a zombie apocalypse

I’m pro-choice, an advocate of marijuana legalization, and in favor of marriage equality for gays. All throughout my life, I’ve been called a bleeding-heart liberal and a hippie. Although I fiercely defend myself against the latter—I don’t have dreads or a banjo—there is one issue on which I side with conservatives: That issue is gun control.
The fact is that guns will never go away; there will always be people who have them, and there will always be people who use them for wicked purposes. The best way to protect against those people is to own a gun yourself, and those with permits should carry them at all times.
Those against gun ownership make the assumption that the more guns there are out there, the more gun-related crimes, injuries and deaths there will be. In fact, that assumption is correct. States with stricter gun control laws indeed have fewer incidents of gun-related injuries.
However, people who intend to commit crimes using guns will get their hands on guns whether it’s legal or not. So, people who want to protect themselves against criminals, aliens, and the like should be able to without fear of the law.
Every citizen who is mentally sound and hasn’t committed a violent crime should have the right to bear arms. I simply believe that citizens should have the choice to protect themselves and their families from harm.
Being a victim of a robbery or even an assault or murder is extremely unlikely, but it does happen every day. Many people store at least one handgun inside their home in case of such an emergency. I store one in my glove compartment in case a virus that causes people to eat brains somehow escapes the lab.
Don’t get me wrong: I support strict gun regulation. Anyone who owns a gun should know how to use it safely. The gun should be registered and kept in a safe place, out of reach of children, anyone who is not educated about gun safety, and
anyone with a history of mental health issues such as depression.
In the end, gun ownership is about freedom. Criminals will always carry guns, so
responsible citizens should have that same right, and exercise that right. If nothing else, when the zombie apocalypse happens, I intend to be ready to shoot those bastards’ heads off.
