When I watch the news there are two things I want to know: what the weather will be like and if traffic is shitty. Unfortunately the local news stations are incapable of quality news reporting. And no station is worse than 9News.

My biggest problem with 9News is their constant need to sensationalize everything. If it snows two inches they act like it snowed two feet. Every road, according to them, is a death trap and it’s probably best to just stay home. Before I realized they were exaggerating all the time I would panic as I left my house, only to discover the roads were fine.

No story was more exaggerated than the incident with Kyle Dyer and the dog. Dyer, as I’m sure you know, was bitten by a dog on live TV. The story was worth covering, since people were genuinely concerned about Dyer’s well-being, but 9News took it to an extreme level. Not only did they run commercials about Dyer’s return to TV, but they reported on her obsessively. They could have easily changed their name to 9Dyer because news was clearly not their main priority.

9News also tends to hire horrible reporters. Corey Rose and Matt Flener are probably very nice people, but their on-air personalities don’t reflect any sort of intelligence. You’re paid to read aloud while sitting at a desk; it can’t be as difficult as you make it look.
